• Tilly Roe

    ADMIN OFFICER

    Telika Roe is most known as Tilly, her family connections are Goolarabooloo and Yinjibarndi.

    She is a bright bubbly person who is very passionate about mental health as it is a real thing she said, “there is nothing to be ashamed about”.

    Tilly was born in Broome, then moved to the Pilbara for most of her teen years.

    She wanted to work with EC-West as she sees it as a great opportunity for more learning skills & a great Team, Tilly has extensive office administration and finance skills which adds great value to our team.

  • Mala Haji-Ali JP

    CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

    Mala has a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture, language groups, Kimberley genealogy and communities through extensive lived and professional experience. This is a result of Mala's diverse upbringing in Wyndham WA, her strong Aboriginal family connections and the work she's successfully led in senior leadership government and community-based roles over the last 15 years.

    Passionate about social justice, collective impacts, economic development and capacity building, Mala is a proud mother of four sons with ties to various West Kimberley Aboriginal language groups, and holds qualifications in Justice, Business and Community Development after extensive study including at the University of Notre Dame.

    Mala possesses expert facilitation, negotiation, mentoring and contract management skills. She is also a Justice of the Peace and volunteers on a number of committees.

  • Erina Tanaka

    CORPORATE SERVICES MANAGER

    Erina comes from a small town of Wakayama, Japan. At the mere age of 18 months, relocated to Broome with her parents during the pearling days when her father was a hard hat diver.

    She has three children of Nimanburr and Yawuru decent and has been part of the Broome and Dampier Peninsula communities alongside her partner for the past 21 years.

    For the last 19 years, Erina has been part of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services with extensive experience in finance, HR and administration.

    Erina has now come on board with West Kimberley Futures – Empowered Communities as the Corporate Services Manager and brings along her passion to extend her knowledge to our upcoming young Aboriginal leaders.

  • Hazali D'Anna

    DATA COORDINATOR

    Hazali, a born and raised local Broome man with connections to many Aboriginal Language Groups including Nimanburr and Ngarinyin, has specialised skills and experience in community engagement and Government relations. Hazali originally joined the EC-West family as a Project Officer in August 2022 and has worked hard on his training and capacity development journey taking on the position as Data Coordinator in January 2023. Hazali is instrumental in strengthening Joint Decision Making processes, supporting the development of collaborate partnerships for collective impact projects, implementing our M&E Plan, and managing the Systems Design products.

  • Esah Coffin

    PROJECT MANAGER

    Esah has a diverse range of valuable skill sets including graphic design, early childhood, management and mentoring. As a proud Broome mum of three, Esah is passionate about improving service delivery to families in the West Kimberley region through coordinated collective impact approaches. At EC-West Esah is leading discussions with community co-design groups on Education Engagement, Youth Safe Spaces, Youth Resources, and the Aboriginal Early Learning and Parenting Centre of Excellence.

  • Aaila Cox-Tanaka

    PROJECT OFFICER

    Aaila is a proud young Nimanburr and Yawuru women, who has strong ties to her Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Japanese background.

    Aaila was born in Broome and was raised on the outskirts of the West Kimberley, from the great big Eastern Indian Ocean of Broome to the coastline of the King Sound’s Ocean, located on the Dampier Peninsular, Lyungarngroon also known as La-Djardarr/Disaster Bay.

    Aaila graduated year 12 at Broome Senior High School in the year of 2021 and maintains a connection with the Stars Foundation as a year 12 graduate of the program.

    Aaila is the Administration Officer of West Kimberley Futures – Empowered Communities, this is a role that fulfils her passion to create change for better outcomes and bigger improvements for all the Indigenous people of the West Kimberley.

  • Lauren Newton

    Project Coordinator - Aboriginal Centre of Excellence

    Lauren, born in Broome is of Yawuru descent from her mother’s side. She has the skills and experience working with Aboriginal not-for profit and corporate organisations in Broome and Melbourne. Lauren holds qualifications in business and law and has background knowledge in business and legal administration, Native Title and events coordination. As Project Coordinator, Lauren is supporting the development and implementation of the Aboriginal Early Learning and Parenting Centre of Excellence project proposal.

  • Alarna Maher

    Project Officer

    Alarna Maher is a proud Bardi, Jabirr Jabirr and Yawuru woman, raised in Broome and is the mother of three beautiful young children.

    Alarna has spent her employment career working with Kimberley Aboriginal organisations for Kimberley Aboriginal people. She is passionate about building opportunities and progressing change for our people and in particular our young leaders.

    Alarna is proud to be a part of an organisation whose intention is to better the social and economic circumstances of our mob and excited to be a part of a team who share the same desires, supporting each other to influence, lead and generate that change.

  • Quentin Turner

    EYL COORDINATOR - WEST KIMBERLEY

    Quentin, traditionally known as Yangki a proud Mayala and Bardi Jawi man from the Dampier Peninsula. Quentin is passionate about his culture, his mob and our future.

    Quentin was privileged enough to represent youth on a few boards and subcommittees in the past few years including the Aboriginal Training Education and Training Committee for North Regional Tafe in 2019. The following year is when Quentin joined the Western Australian Student Aboriginal Corporation as a student representative at the University of Western Australia. He is now one of the youngest persons to step up and become a director for a PBC which he is very proud to be a part of joint decision-making processes and developing his capacity for himself and his mob.

    Quentin possesses qualifications and knowledge in business, governance and a high understanding of barriers affecting the livelihoods of people within the West Kimberley Region.

    Quentin believes that starting to create generational change for our First Nations people, start with improving service deliveries, empowering and educating our young people, supporting them to build their capacity and how we can strengthen our voices collectively.

    He is a very passionate and excited to have come on board to work alongside likeminded individuals and an organisation whose values are close to mine.

  • Natalya Turnbull

    EYL COORDINATOR - EAST KIMBERLEY

    Natalya was born in Perth and moved to Wyndham when she was 9 years old. She did most of my schooling in Wyndham and then went to boarding school in Perth for year 10 to year 12. Her last job was at the local supermarket as an assistant manager. She wanted this job because she sees it being a great opportunity to learn more and to help young people become great leaders.

  • Darren Mitchelson

    ENGAGEMENT OFFICER

    Darren was born and raised in Derby with connections across the West Kimberley and iis passionate about youth leadership, service delivery in remote areas and assisting community members to understand local, state and commonwealth Government Initiatives that may impact their way of life.

    Darren is a descendent from the Nyul Nyul and Bunuba nation through his father connections and Nikiyna, Bunuba and Gooniyandi nations from his mother’s parents’ connections within the West Kimberley region.

    He is highly skilled and experienced in working in Government Departments and local Aboriginal Corporation under Community Development & Management, including working with Employment Service Reforms in the last 20 years.

    He is really enthusiastic about transferring knowledge and experiences to our youth by way of providing mentoring and support to help them pursue their goals and aspirations.

    A ‘people person’ and his strengths is demonstrated through his effective communication skills in assisting community members to understand complex issues or tasks that impacts them and their family life journey.

    A dedicated employee that considers assisting Non-Indigenous colleagues with local cultural awareness and knowledge of local area and Aboriginal way of life living in the Kimberley and is very respectful towards elders in remote communities and have strong connections to majority of Aboriginal communities within the West Kimberley region.

    Darren is very excited with his new role with EC-West as an Engagement Officer for the Dampier Peninsula and Derby area and looks forward engaging with local community members from both regions to help bring change to where it matters.

  • Marty Sibosado

    Chief Strategy Officer

    Martin (Marty) Sibosado is a Bardi Jawi traditional owner - his father’s family are Goolargoon Bardi, originating from and still living at Djarindjin Lombadina on the Dampier Peninsular.

    Marty is a Yawuru traditional owner via his mother’s side. Marty has been advocating for a Kimberley Aboriginal Regional Authority for more than 30 years at numerous high-profile organisations and is now Chief Strategy Officer at West Kimberley Futures Empowered Communities.

    Marty has long been involved in native title determinations and founded a number of Broome’s Aboriginal corporations, in particular developing training programs for young people and local media capability. A former Shire Councillor, Marty is currently on a number of Boards and acts as an advisor for the WA Government and corporate sector.
