West Kimberley Futures - Empowered Communities

EC-West

Acknowledgement of Country

EC-West acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live, the people of the Yawuru nation and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.

Our Purpose

EC-West’s vision is to empower West Kimberley Aboriginal people both at structural and individual level, to lead generational change.

Generational change, as envisioned by EC-West, signifies a comprehensive transformation in the lives of West Kimberley Aboriginal individuals, families, and communities. It’s a vision that encompasses progressing priorities around housing, family empowerment, thriving young people, empowered young leaders, effective community engagement, governance and reform, all with complementary approaches to create a positive and sustainable impact across generations.

What we do

EC-West is 1 of 10 backbone organisations established across Australia to implement the national Empowered Communities movement. We are working directly with Aboriginal leaders, member organisations, Aboriginal young people, government agencies and the wider community.

The role and function of EC-West in all activities is around Coordination, Facilitation, Co-design, Advocacy, Monitoring and Evaluation.  EC-West is not a funds holder, and does not deliver direct services into communities.
